What happens if you don't use the bottle of GM additive?

Assuming you have a posi unit, not using the additive will cause your posi clutches to grab unevenly and chatter making a bucking sound especially on turns. Jerry

I changed my rear diff fluid today. I followed the advice of a forum tech coordinator Gary (GTR1999) and used Lucas 85w140 Gear Oil with 2 bottles of GM posi additive.
I drained as much as possible, added the GM additive first, then the gear oil. It took a little less that a quart and a half of the gear oil (after the additive), before it started pouring out of the fill hole. Does this sound right? I'm not sure what the correct capacity is.

Yes, thats the only way to get it in and once it back flows, you're full.
