Vette Owner...Hot Rodder or Enthusiast?
Sometimes there are some heated discussions on this forum when someone asks which direction they should take concerning car changes, improvements, or upkeep. The answers received depend on if the replier is a hot rodder or enthusiast.
So, for the sake of discussion, are you an enthusiast first (who may happen to have a fast car).........or are you a racer who happens to have a Corvette? Myself, I admit to being a hot rodder who happens to have a Corvette. (Though I really like the Vette body style!)

Hot Rodder first I have a 52 Chevy pickup with a 400 cu in Mopar and a Ford 9 inch that I built 2 years ago love driving that monster.Worked on this 77 Corvette for a year now and just got it on the road never owned or even drove a vette but I'll tell you it's a blast driving her ,love the sound of the exhaust ,and the way she fells on the road.

I think I’m more of an enthusiast. I replaced the stock motor with a more powerful one but I don’t really use it. I enjoy it just as much as I did when it was stock. I mainly bought the car for the styling.

My wife is an enthusiast, and her car reflects that. I'm building mine for the (race)track and twisty roads, but it may take a few years to get there. I have no interest in drag racing, AutoX, or torque bragging, so perhaps I can't be a true hot-rodder.

I am more of an enthusiast. I do have two retro-rods; a 60 and a 63 SWC, but they were both way past returning to original when I got them. They both had been extremely changed and the original engines were long gone.
I bought a 70 big block convertible two years ago that had considerable modifications, but it still had the original motor and was capable of being restored. I am doing a frame off restoration and returning it to as original as possible.

Me?
A Hotrodder- And my car is a way to express myself through creativity and design.
I have a tough time ordering from a catalog- much prefer going to a junkyard -finding something that is close enough and making it work.
On my car I have parts from just about every marque- BMW-Audi- Nissan -Ford - Cadillac- Mazda-M-B-etc. I'm sort of old school using new school technology.
And I also enjoy hanging out with enthusiasts too!!!

I'm a 70/30............70% Enthusiast/30% Hotrodder. I bought a '68 basket case that was too far gone to restore, but I want it to look as original as my wallet will allow.

I have always considered myself an old school rev head/ gear head,
I have always had a vette or two along with other kit cars, buggies, customs, trikes , bikes etc,
I love self expression with things like vehicles i own but that doesnt mean the corvette summer car, i like flow and function, hate hack jobs, rats are okay if done well,
I do tend to get drawn to race theme cars be them real or like my 69 build a poser,

I am definitely the enthusiast. The #1 reason I love a C3 Corvette is the body styling and shape. Its what I fell in love with as a teenager. #2, I do want it to be quick, and with my modified 350, it is. Lastly, the handling. After I got rid of the loose factory power steering, and went back to manual steering, it now drives like a sports car should and is an absolute blast to carve up Pennsylvania twisties. With the combination of the beautiful and sexy styling of a C3, combined with the sweet torque of a Chevy 350, and the awesome handling built by GM, and improved on by me, the car is everything I wanted it to be and more. There is nothing I would rather own and drive than my 77, except....maybe......a 69 Corvette, 427, black with red interior!!!!

Enthusiast. After having a 33 year career flying jets...my need for speed no longer exists. I enjoy the style of the C3 and listening to the beat of the exhaust...seldom turn on the radio.

I'm a traditional Hot Rods/Kustom guy, who happens to like Corvettes also.
I appreciate anybody's build regardless if it' a Hot Rod, Kustom, or restored original as long as it's true to their own taste..not influenced by what people think should be done with it.
Be true to thyself.

I am honestly not sure how to answer this as I love the old school styling of the C3. It is the car that I lusted after as a teenager.
On the other hand, I enjoy precise handling so I am doing substantial suspension and geometry modifications.
As far as track? No, I am saddened to say that cars on a track do not excite me so it will be more of a driver/cruiser car.
I guess I would have to say that I have bits of both enthusiast and hotrodder in me.

Put me down as probably being more of a 'Hot Rodder', but slowly edging toward 'Enthusiast' territory...... I better spend some time working on my 69 Firebird before I slip to the dark side!

It's not that easy to pigeon hole me into one category. I am a hotrodder/racer, I like tastefully done customs and I love bone stock original cars. My current car is obviously a hotrod.

Hotrodder. Like to think that I built the car that GM would have built if they could have done a 496, EFI, 6 speed stick convertible in 1975.

Many of you put yourselves in the "in between" category, or "neither" or "both" to some degree. For me, if you are a true hotrodder, you have the "need for speed", which supersedes all other enjoyment of the car. It doesn't matter what model you have, only 500+ HP or 10 sec. 1/4 mile will do! Given the choice, the slightly(?) modified car is always the choice over a pristine but slow stock car. For the speedster, stock is only a baseline.
Now, flip the coin, and the pure enthusiast will always choose the pristine stock car over any quick modified one. Their slight modifications tend to run toward comfort, handling, and smooth running.
For me, I appreciate both, but I've got to have speed!
