Default Quick Question

I have never seen my door adjar light on before, until yesterday. The switch on the drivers door does not pop out. It stays in. The hood was up does that have anything to do with the door adjar light being on. I do not know why all of a sudden the light works. It won't go out until I turn off the car. No big deal just would like to go off.

No. Sounds like you may need a replacement door ajar switch.

My door ajar light was coming on intermittently the other day then it stayed on. Turned out to be the drivers door switch, so took it out and cleaned it up, removed some corrosion on the contacts with a little sandpaper. works like a treat now.

shouldn't have anything to do with the bonnet being up, should only come on when your ignition is on start I think, or at least when the engine is turned on and the door is either open of not fully closed. You may need a new one as mentioned above, but depending how bad it is you may be able to save it if you can clean out the dirt or corrosion. if the spring inside is gone though you will need a knew one.

Thanks Matt I was not sure if the button pushed in would let the light come on. Maybe there is some corrosion.

yeah Id say so. The fact that the light is on and the switch won't pop out when your door is open suggests the springing mechanism. fairly easy to get out if you haven't already looked, but the issue will be getting the wires off (just take a note of which wire goes where) and having a look at the mechanism, if it can be taken apart it might work. Either the springs gone or something is jamming or interfering with its movement. Once out see if a lubing spray (silicon or wd40 spray or whatever equivalent in the USA) will loosen it and let it travel, sand paper the contacts on both ends, I just use 400 grit wet and dry with no water, it might free it up and give it more life. If its corroded solid against the contacts and won't budge, probably easier to get a new one, and while your at it, check the other door as chances are that it won't be long in the perishing either.

On the other hand, just get a new one anyway if it only costs a small amount, I tend to try and recondition most stuff here as it costs an arm and leg to buy and ship over to Australia.
