My C3 has had only one set of license plates since new in 75. WA state does legally require a front plate. However, if you change the vehicle status to permanent “collector” you can retain the original plates and the front plate requirement goes bai-bai.
Now I’m more committed than ever to drive this thing on the 4th lol 😂
Not safe you say? Hmmm. Well. It’s been like that for 3 months and I’ve replaced literally every major mechanical component on the car with a new or rebuilt unit. Exception being the diff however I did install a drain plug last nite.
Are you referring to the orientation of the front jack stands? I do have them “inline” with the frame rails so they don’t smash my new aluminum rad. They are exactly centered though and I check them every day I’m working on the car.
Looks like it's coming along nicely! Do you know if the car was originally licensed in 1975? A reproduction of the 76 bicentennial tab would look good on the original rear plate. FYI, not until 1977 did they start applying both the month and year sticker on the rear plate. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-WASHIN...IAAOSwxN5WY4ly
You have a goal! Get it on the road and enjoy it for the 4th!
Love the nose on that car. More pics please.
Funny you mention that. My uncle bought this car new and sold it to me 3 months ago. It was running/driving just fine but I could not help myself. 3 days after he was proudly showing me how clean the oil was on the original L48 dipstick I had the engine/trans out and on the deck. Since then I've said "bai-bai" to just about everything in the drivetrain.
Anyway! Uncle has a huge party every year on the 4th, I was hoping to give him a ride in the car but I'm not seeing it happening. Close! But not happening. I did save the 4 original mint condition derby caps. I'm thinking to have one framed or something for him as a keepsake,

Thanks!
Yes... uncle Tony took delivery in spring of 1975 from Lee Johnson Chevrolet here in the Seattle area. I would love to find a vintage "75" decal or something to that effect.
Wait! That means the 1st year displayed would have been that bicentennial 76 guy. Thanks man I'm getting it!
Hay Kie,, could you post a pic of the licence plate light in the rear bumper cover?? I'm putting mine in the new fiberglass cover and am unsure how it mounts,,,,, thanks,,,, yours looks ready to fly! !! ! .................teddy
doorgunner does your handle mean what I think it means? Thank you for your service kind sir!
Strangely enough my uncle Tony did the exact same thing some 50-odd years ago on one of those flying horses. There is no way possible I can ever comprehend what that experience must have been like. Men like you guys are true heroes.
My uncle dreamed of owning a new Corvette when he was over there. He could afford the $4500 or so for the car however the yearly rate for the insurance was the same amount so he couldn’t do it.
By 1974 he was back home and his restaurant business was taking off. Some guy named Nixon resigned and literally that very day my uncle went to the dealer and ordered this car. He took delivery in early 1975 and 43 years later he was kind enough to let me take the reigns.
Thanks for the “76” idea bmotojoe. I think it looks great! I also got a “JULY” tab to complete the bicentennial look haha.
As you pointed out, “76” would have been the 1st sticker ever on my car. Some folks actually believe me when I tell them I found it like this under 42 other stickers lol.
