Seems unlikely. If the only difference is the 4th digit it seems as though they would continue without any duplicate VIN being created.

That does not mean that the convertible actually exists, even though the decoder identified it.

The reason I ask is that a '68 convertible advertised on craigslist included a VIN, and my Google search of that VIN brought me to the C3 registry, where the VIN's 4th digit was the only difference, and was assigned to a coupe. I thought that was strange so I figured I'd inquire.

Not in the same body anyway. The last 5 or 6 will probably repeat from a Nova to a Vette to an Impala, but the digit before the serial is different. It is possible that coupe has had roofectomy, and somebody got 3 changed to 6 by claiming a mistake was made previously. Unlikely though. This scares me. Run.
