Default Door Ajar Bumper - Placement

71 Coupe

I guess this is stupid question, but I just saw 'door ajar bumper' in catalog and wondered where they were placed? My car has the door ajar switch in jamb. It has had a repaint at some point and has no 'bumper' to be seen. In catalog it looks like a simple rubber square. Does it glue to the lip on the door itself and mash on the switch?

Other?

I assume this is easily answered, but didn't want to put it is somewhere obviously wrong in hindsight.

Thanks for any help.

Some model years do not use the bumper. They help ensure the door ajar switches close when the door closes. If you need them, they mount on the door where the switch contacts it.

An old cheat trick to locate exactly center would be to put some strip caulk on the door jamb switch and shut the door. It'll mark the door where the center of the switch lands... then install the bumper on center. If the strip caulk trick fails to mark the door put some talc powder on there and repeat... it'll work.

Attached are pics of placement on a white 72 door and pics of that bumper removed. Hope they help.
By the way, that brown stuff is all factory-installed weatherstrip adhesive.
