the ones who drive the corvette's on weekends, do you put a trickle charger to charge / maintain and keep the battery fully charged when the corvette is not in use?
the ones who do winter storage on corvette's, do you use the trickle charger to keep the battery maintain and fully charged when in winter storage. or do you remove the battery and keep it in a warm area and put on the trickle charger to keep the battery charged?
I never touch the battery during the season except to disconnect for a repair procedure that would call for it.
I remove the battery at end of season and put it on a shelf in the unheated garage, only because I'm nervous about 40 year old wiring, for months, unattended.
No trickle charger. I used to give it a charge before putting it back in the car but don't even do that anymore. Doesn't need it, starts right up.
I use battery maintainers from either Yuasa or or Battery Tender on my Corvette after each drive & constantly on my limited usage tractors & motorcycles. The batteries last forever. Batteries, when not used, will slowly drain and eventually fail. Maintainers are cheap insurance because they constantly monitor the battery's condition .
During driving season, April - November, I install the battery in the car with one of those knife savety switches on it, when not in use the switch is in the off position.
During winter season, Nov - April, I remove the battery from the car and connect it to a Deltran Battery tender, and I leave it connected all winter.
I have had batteries last for 7 or 8 years using this method, your results may vary!
