Default Moving A C-3 using a contractor

1979 Corvette needs to be hauled 500 miles to upstate NY. She's a great old gal but I don't want to risk a breakdown by driving her. Too much for this old body too! Anybody have any experiences with people that move cars? looking for someone honest and reasonably priced. Any ideas?
Thanks, Psychovette

Moving A C-3 using a contractor
I think I got the moving part and the C3 part but what do you mean by contractor?

Sorry that I didn't explain that I am looking for a company to haul my '79 Corvette on a 500 mile trip. I've been "stung" recently by a few shady operators that quoted me a decent price and then called back with a higher "estimate." I don't need it shipped enclosed. The old girl likes fresh air!
Thanks,
Psychovette

I would not hesitate to recommend Passport. They are enclosed but they will take care of your car. I think they are headquartered in New York, too.
They are a bit more expensive but you will actually know who is hauling your car which was very important to me.

We used AT auto transport to move mine from central Texas to southern Indiana a few months ago. Can’t say I would recommend them. Got the car back with some deep gouges on the front bumper and he said it ran out of gas. I know he didn’t leave the cars sitting there idling for long periods of time while moving them around so I’m pretty sure he was out beating on it because I had 1/8 tank of gas in there when it left Texas. I forgot to take a photo of the odometer before I shipped it so I can’t really prove it. He also bent my new antenna pretty good and one of the mufflers came off (it’s possible that it just rattled off because my new exhaust kit didn’t fit together very well, but it’s only fallen off for me at full throttle). I had to load the car for him, which probably should have been a red flag. My dad said the guy almost wrecked it while unloading it.

UShip or rent a truck and trailer and take it yourself. You’ll atleast know where it is. Last car I shipped arrived with a busted door glass and a trans that only works in reverse, even when it’s in drive.

I have used UShip a number of times to ship cars, all with great results
Be very careful you research their reviews
I have had great results with guys towing an enclosed trailer with a pick up
as opposed to the big movers

If you have a classic car dealer around you- go talk to them. I have a couple around me and have had great luck.

You don't want to go blindly using a transporter- especially a broker who is just getting a lowest price.

Good read-

WOW! Story and pictures of the '67 Cadillac dumped off a carrier really freaked me out. I'm going to look into renting a trailer with a suitable truck to pull it with. Moving is stressful enough without this kind of issue. I had no idea that "middleman brokers" were involved in this service and that no one wants to take any responsibility for what can happen. Thanks everyone for the information!

Where to, in "upstate NY", and what do you consider to be a reasonable cost?

I'm headed to California from Texas on 10 July with a empty auto hauler. My hauler is not enclosed.

Uship ugyp,

If all goes well super, but they play broker and offer basically zero customer service,

And seems every cleetus with a truck and old jet ski trailer is a car hauler these days

Not long back i sold my fiero and the buyer wanted it shipped up north, he gets a great price and told we will get it Friday, send deposit, then friday came and went and now when he called them the person he needs to talk to is busy or out and doesnt call him back,

They promised pick up in a few days 3 weeks later when he threatened wanting a refund do they get busy, and the guy they sent was new to transporting but very kind , caring and good, he got lucky,

That is the exception not the rule, most brokers will have your beloved car on a big huge stack carrier, loaded and hauled by guys who i dont speak their language and they dont speak mine,

Its not a question of no damages but how much and how badly,
I had one bust a rim on a kit car, when i pressed the company for a payment the boss cused me, said he would dock or just fire the driver who has kids to feed, real bs,

Im cheap a bargain hunter but not with transporters,
