My roommate in college had a 70 LT-1. It was around 1989. The car was original. Yellow coupe black inside. He bought it from a well known vette guy. It had a an M22 and 4.11 gears. I thought the ZR-1 had 4.11 gears? Anyhow, the only thing that separated that car from a ZR-1 (according to the guy he bought it from) was the J56 brakes., which it did not have. I recall not being able to keep it on the ground in 4th gear. What a ride. And yes, it was all original, Wonder who has it.

Zero... as 4.56 gears were not an option, at least according to Corvette DNA... they could be wrong.

Not counting the 25 ZR1's - None and None
All 25 ZR1's got the 25 M22 transmissions and no 4.56 gear was available.

Joevette, did you buy that yellow 70 convertible with black vinyl hardtop that was on eBay? If so, I know the history on that car.

I don’t know what it came in/ from, but I bought a loaded differential that had a 4.56:1 RP. It was stamped as GM parts.

The 4.56:1 gears were available in the 68 and 69 Corvette, but I believe the gears were only available with the L88 option.

It appears the 4:56 gears were available in 1970 as well... page 91, https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...t-Corvette.pdf

That is interesting; what was the "360hp" engine, and what's up with two different ratings for the LS-7?

360hp Z28. GM always gave the Corvette the "edge" even though the engine was basically the same.

Ah; I didn't think they used the same tune-up sticker on different model cars.

Thanks!

In 1970 4.56 posi was available, but only with the ZR1 special hi-performance engine package. I have 1970 ZR1 coupe and is one of 3 that I know of that came optioned with it in '70 (out of the 14 or 15 known cars in the registry). The ratio is documented by the interior build sheet listing the correct option code - BTW it's the only other variable option that was ordered on the car besides the ZR1 package and a tilt/tele wheel. It's a lot of fun to drive, especially with the lightweight flywheel and close ratio trans. Lots of throttle steer.

Less efficient "Log" manifolds on a Z/28 vs more efficient "Rams Horn" manifolds on a Corvette. Seems like a decent excuse.
