Spare Tire ....
Does anyone know if a 255/60R 15 tire will fit inside the clam shell on my 81? The "fake" spare is totally rotted, I think its the original and I want to get a replacement. I was just wondering if I could use the same size tire I am running on the car now.
Thanks for any help.

Looks like an optional tire in 81 was a 255 so if you got a flat it will but you will need to loosen the tub bolt for it to fit.
A 255/60 looks highly visible here in the pic as a regular spare. If you are looking for another tire to match the 255 then buy a 205/75/15 for a spare & it will be hidden like your present spare.

diameters.
255/60/15 = 27.05
205/75/15 = 27.11
195/80/15 = 27.28 space saver
Check the tire brands that you like for a 205/75/15.

Just a "heads up"...……...In case your Corvette has a positraction rear axle, which most, if not all do, and you have a flat on the rear end, you need to have the same diameter tires on both sides of the car, if you intend to drive it more than a mile or two. Limited slip rear ends do NOT like differing tire sizes in place. You'll burn up the rear, if you drive too far with different sized rear tires.
