Default Rear Window Storage Tray Info. Needed

Hi Gang! I'm in the process of installing the removable rear window in my 73 Corvette. I am now installing the rear window storage tray, and I am trying to locate the positions of the hinge screws on the rear wall. The horizontal dimension is easy, the tray fits in between the wheel wells snugly and perfectly. I need to determine the vertical location of the four screws. I'm hoping someone can help me with a reference where to locate the holes. There is a horizontal pinchweld seam running horizontally across the rear compartment, I believe the screw locations are very near this pinchweld, and that would be a good place to measure from. Additionally, there is on Corvettes equipped with a factory installed storage tray, a tapping plate riveted to the fuel tank side of the rear compartment wall It is held by two vertically oriented aluminum rivets. The storage tray hinge screws thread into this plate. I have these plates, and am going to use them. The vertical location of the rivet holes would work for me as well.
Hoping someone can help me out. The open rear window is... Neat! Enjoying it!
Thank You Everybody.

Chillydog,

There is an old post on here somewhere that had the measurements you're looking for. I am in the process of doing this exact thing to my 73 after years of putting it off (amongst other things). At least you have the plates from a donor car. I'm having to make a pair. I know I saved off the hand written measurements, but I'll have to search my own archives.

Maybe someone else will chime in.

Thanks, Busrydr ! The nut plates(I think that's what they are called)are super simple, they are just 1/8" steel stock( could be 12 gauge sheet, which is .108,, far more common in the sheet metal trade, I'll mike my plates and let you know what they are) with 4 holes tapped in 10/24 thread, plus 2 holes for the aluminum rivets that hold them to the back of the rear compartment wall. I'll get a drawing to you. Thanks!

This is the template I made just estimating the size from looking at pictures. And I have the actual hinges so the most important measurement is exact. When I get home I'll dig up the measurements for installing the plate.

Here are the measurements someone posted a while back. Added one of Alan's pictures for a visual reference.

Finally got these installed. Used the picture as a reference and the measurements were just the ticket to know I had it in the right spot.

This is the support plate mounted to the back of the bulkhead. Just need to add the rivets.

Picked up a rear window tray in nice condition at Carlisle for my 72. It has the hinges already attached and I have the hinge half that mounts on the bulkhead. My question is what acts as the pivot pin, if you will, between these halves? See the pictures. The piece that mounts on the car has a threaded nut welded to it. Searched all the usual Corvette supply houses and only Doc Rebuild has anything associated but he has the plastic bushings only. Anyone have pictures from their 68-72? Leigh 1322 does your brackets have this pivot pin? If so I would be interested even though I have the hinges.

What connects these?

There is a bolt and a plastic bushing that attaches thr two parts.

I'd need to do some resesrch, but the bushings are still available as they were used on orher parts of our cars. You may not see them as parts for the rear window storage tray.

I already had the screws with my hinges so I never had to look for them separately.

If no one else chimes in, I can post some pics later when I get home.

I found a correct size bushing at the local hardware store. They work fine. I just measured I.D. and O.D. and bought one with a shoulder.
If Doc rebuild has more correct ones I may try that route.
I also used a hardware store bolt with a smooth stem where the bushing rides.
I will look and see if I used Grangiers, if I did I may have some no.s

If I recall correctly....

I could not find the bolts or bushings at any of the parts houses, but...

I thought I remember from my 1969 AIM that the bushings and bolts were the same as those on the wiper door actuator mount. I will check that tonight.

Default Appologies

I looked at my AIM. Although I may have determined independently at some point that this might work, the bolt in the AIM is not the same. In fact, the 69 AIM does not even have a bushing.

Sorry for the confusion. If the 69 is off the lift this weekend I will see if the wiper door actuator is a functional replacement even if it is not correct.

These special bolts are called shoulder bolts. Small Allen head screws can be bought in that configuration. Lou.

Good information here, I'm subscribing to this as I plan to do this to my 74 in the future.
Thanks!
