Default NCRS Shipping reports

Finally got around to requesting a shipping report for the Vette. Received an e-mail from NCRS telling me that the reports are not from GM. The e-mail goes on to tell me that the information has been obtained by qualified experts, and may not be 100 percent accurate. Do any of our members here know who these Experts are.? Or where the information is coming from.? Will the report even be worth the paper its printed on.

It is my understanding the information comes from car shipper records the NCRS was able to obtain. The records are not 100% complete; they may or may not have information for your car. The shipping report is worth the paper it's printed on if you are looking to find who the original receiving dealer was.

Car Shipper:

My shipping data report. Jim Bodner Chevrolet was actually Jim Booher Chevrolet who was in business at the time.

Thanks Easy Mike..! So it sounds as if the transport companies GM contracted kept records showing destinations and model numbers. I have found a destination and date written in grease pencil under the body. I am hoping the report comes up with the same Dealer in NC. Gonna be a long thirty day wait.

Did NCRS correct the error when you brought it to their attention, assuming you brought it to their attention?

I didn't bring it to their attention. The report simply tells you what the car shipper data said.

The actual shipping report contained options installed? My understanding is the NCRS version does not. Options were not shown on the microfiche?

Hello Mike,
I don't think that's correct.
They are getting the shipper information from what amounts to the same information that was sent to the NICB. The NICB report was once able to be obtained by the everyday citizen. Now it can only be obtained by law enforcement and only when a car is stolen and a investigation is in order. I also believe it has to be requested by the insurance company that is covering the stolen car. I could be wrong as I don't really know the process but its what I have been told by someone in the car insurance business.
The NICB report may have original and even some secondary owner information on it. That's why ordinary citizens can't get it. Privacy laws.

The information on that report is not the same as the Car Shipper. The Car Shipper is a copy of the window sticker. NCRS does not have these. They most likely have the microphiche copies of the reports sent to the NICB from GM which is some type of Shipper Report but not the Car Shipper.

NCRS can only give you the dealer info found on the NICB report. There are no options on this report. It was solely used for the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) to report on stolen cars. I don't know what the NICB did with these reports. Probably made surveys to tell everyone things like "red cars get stolen 10 times more than white cars". Typical Govt agency I suppose. Every car made had to send this report to NICB so it could be tracked. I believe this is what NCRS has. Its the only thing it could be.

Now here is something else. The NICB report (which is what I suspect NCRS has) does contain the two control numbers: the Order Number and the Ident number. These two numbers will show up on your window sticker as well as tank sticker and other documents from GM pertaining to any specific car. These are unique control numbers used by GM for every car. I believe this is part of what NCRS uses for there documentation verification process.

In case anyone does not already know - Allied Vaughn can provide shipping documents for '77 and up Chevrolets. For $50 they will send a scan of the info found on your window sticker.
