Default electrical issues

Im replacing the shifter console on my 69. While the old console is out I figure nows the time to address the electrical issues of the car.
There are two issues one is the parking brake lite is always on And the seatbelt lite is always on even after pushing the button. I need some help.

the sea belt light is a magnetic relay type of switch. It gets powerr and turns on an electro magnet and when you push the button in it holds a relay arm open that extinguishes the light. Its probbably a bad solder joint or just a bad coil. You can buy a new solid state switch but you have to pull the console to replace it, luckily you are already at that point.

The parking brake could be a bad switch as well , its a push button biult into the brake mounting hardware and the handle. With the cover off you'll see it. That may just need to be cleaned to free up the contact or just need adjusting. Mine sits just below that last click when I put the handle down so I have to hold in the button and make sure its all the way down

Thanks for the reply buddy Ill try cleaning the contact point on the hand brake. As far of the seatbelt switch I replaced the radio last yearl and I had to move that center console around to get the radio in, So Ill have to pull it again and see what I did wrong. Thanks again

The brake warning light is also activated by the proportioning/combination valve when there is an imbalance in the brake system. Located under the mastercylinder, you can unplug the wire to see if the light goes out, if it does, then that.s where the problem lies.

as mentioned by 75, the proportioning valve can also give you the light on, unplug that first, before ripping console apart.

I cleaned the contact points on the hand brake that wasn't it. So I unplugged the proportioning valve and that put the light out.
So what do I need? a new valve?

the warning is an indicator of improper brake pressue in your brake system.
so you need a complete and through brake inspection, if properly inspected and bleed.
then the Proportioning switch then needs to be cleaned/ manually reset, or replaced.

There was a post about resetting the proportioning valve, somewhat complicated for no apparent reason. Look through the history for the info. Ike
