Hi Guys,
I want to thank you all in advance for all the help and information provided here. I have been lurking and learning here for the past several months, and it appears I am finally going to be the owner of a white/red 72 coupe! I grew up working on Chevys, but have owned and been wrenching on Jags for the last 25+ years. What do you guys recommend I purchase in the way of manuals, reference material, etc, so I will have a starting point for future maintenance, fixes, and modifications. Any other suggestions you might have for a newbie Vette guy appreciated. At some point, the car will be an almost daily driver type car and will probably not remain stock. Thanks much
The first thing you want to do is get a "GM Chassis Service Manual" for your specific year Corvette. Not a Chilton or other generic C3 book. The changes from 68 up leave you in the dark as nothing much was the same. A factory assembly manual is also handy to show how it was put together with little details if you are rebuilding something. Some things are kind of puzzling and like your Jag, why did they do that.....? but if you ask here, you will get an answer.
I am new to Corvettes so I clicked on different Vendor sites/looked at all the Corvette parts and the names of the parts so I would have a better idea of what the experienced Forum members were discussing. I also read through related threads in the Forum before I began working on a specific part.
