I was wondering how much removable hardtops go for. I doubt that I will use the one that came with the car I just purchased I'm thinking I might sell it to help fund the paint job.
Love my Hard Top. I would never get rid of it. My car is my daily driver so I use it almost half of the time.
I don't know what you could get for it. There are none on e-bay that I found right now so it's hard to judge what they go for these days. Ecklers sells them unpainted for $1700. To me mine is worth more as it's original. If I had to sell mine I think I'd start at $2000 and go from there.
There are several c3 hardtops on ebay, ranging from around $1,000 to $2,800. guess what? they have all been listed for months.
hard tops can be hard to sell, especially painted. you need to either find someone who has the same color as you, or doesnt mind painting it. Vinyl tops usually sell faster, because anyone can bolt them on their car.
in my area, i've seen them as cheap as $500, and up to $1,500 or so. I've been thinking of getting a vinyl top for my 68, but I honestly dont know if I would use it. I only take my car out with the top down, so buying a top and then storing it might just be a big waste of money and space for me.
All the ones I have seen need new glass due to scratches, new headliners, weatherstrips, refurbished or replace stainless and latches due to being old, ugly and worn out. Add paint to that and you easily have a $4000 dollar top. Buying one and having it shipped and things are starting to get outrageous. I see why they languish on ebay.
$500 - $1500 in the Seattle area.
I have two. Vinyl and PTM.
I have a pair of electric lifts in my garage rafters to put a top on or take it off.
Agreed restoring to perfection is pretty pricey. If you are an NCRS kind of owner, check the lower drivers side of the glass. There is a mark indicating the year of the glass.
Also the little chrome parts on the tips of the winglets I believe was a 1969 offer only. ( if memory serves)
Otherwise they are basically all the same for all the C3 verts.

also depends on where you live and what is available.....shipping for your end is complicated...and paying for shipping on the other end hurts. Im thinking about getting one for my 75 but I'd only buy one if it were in reasonable driving distance to pick up myself.
My only comment about the hardtop that came with my '72 is that I sold it for about 10% of what I paid for the car...../700 bux........now it had dark saddle vinyl on the interior, but the vinyl had shrunken so as to deform the cardboard/paper/mesh form it was wrapped on....all held in place with the same velcro as the door panels were....
so I unwrapped the forms, wet them down to shape again, let dry in the sun....fit fine....then went to a yard goods store and bought fuzzy black material, and fit/glued it to the forms, DUN!!!!

The stainless tips were not on early 1968 hardtops. From that point through 1975, the stainless tips were installed by the factory.
My favorite look for any C3 is a convertible with the hardtop installed and that look can only be achieved by a convertible owner that has a hardtop. I guess as much of a pain in the *** it is to sell yours and the color issue and all wouldn't it just be better to keep it and have it if you want to use it? It really doesn't take up that much room especially if you hang it from the garage ceiling.

My glass is almost perfect. The headliner is a little warped but not bad at all. I took the headliner out to clean after all the years and it's got to grease marks etc from the factory. It was pretty neat to see.
Well you guys are starting to sway me. However I may advertise it a couple places just to see if I get any offers. If not I'll be happy to keep it. Although with shipping out of the question it probably won't sell because I virtually never see a convertible C3 in my area.
On average I have seen the car value go up around 2500$ with the top on at auction.
I found my top on this forum and paid 1400 for it.- no doubt if I had to buy everything to make one- top, paint, chrome trim, hardware, inside liner- I would be over 3 grand easy.
But I like the look, makes these cars look more classy with the chrome...
