Are there any disadvantages to running staight exhaust.

I sprayed some penetrating oil into the ends of the side tubes, let it soak in for a while, then used an old broom handle, motivated by a 3lb, short handled sledge hammer, to remove the mufflers from mine.

sounds like a plan. I'm going to work on it after the driving season is over when I do the timing change and new valve springs and seals and new rockers. If I get the mufflers out it will sound much better.
