Default C3 wood shift ****

Hello all,

Just bought a 78 and am new to the site. Thanks in advance for the help as I learn. Here's my question...

I have a wood grain console and want to buy a wood grain steering wheel and shift ****. I can find plenty of steering wheels for the C3, but having difficulty finding a wood (preferably mahogany) ****. Any idea where I can find a wood shift **** to replace the original? Also, is it difficult to replace?

Thanks...James

Thanks...James

That's very kind. Hopefully I can find the one for auto. Thanks for your reply.

eBay. They come up occasionally in the Parts section here too. That’s where I got mine. Just be patient and you’ll find one.

We’re they an option? My 77came with a wood **** when I bought it but I preferred the black, and there was no other wood in my car. I think I still have it somewhere here so I’ll check

He thought he did, but it was for a manual, not automatic. If you have one, I'd love to buy it. Thanks.

Well I found it but it certainly isn’t as nice as what is in your car in the pictures. I am not a wood worker by any means but I did work for Mercedes for many years so I’ll use their description and I would call yours a burled walnut where this **** looks more zebrano. I’m not sure if the one I have here split or if it just has a crack but here is a pic of it with the push button.

Thank you. Is there any sort of plate on the top of the button? Are there threads inside the opening? Do we know what year vette it came out of? Sorry for all the questions, but this is a learning experience for me. Thanks!

The button is wood as well, no chrome on it at all. Yes it threads on. All I know about it is that it was on my 77 when I bought it. I preferred the black with the chrome button so I replaced it and it’s been stored in my spare parts collection ever since.

Is this one for sale Mooser? The pic doesn't clearly show the bottom part. Is it wood below the chrome? Would you please send a couple better pics? I may be interested in buying if it's for sale. Thanks.

Sorry, I couldn't sell that one, hate to even think about how much time goes into these one-off things I keep dreaming up
To answer your question though it is metal one both sides of the wood

Someone must make wooden ***** for these by now though

Thanks. It looks good! If someone's making them, I haven't found him yet. Take care...
