I have a 69 that was not delivered with side pipes. When I bought the car the owner had installed oem side pipes. After burning myself, I installed cheapo fiberglass covers. I am now ready to install original covers. Appears from what I am seeing that I can order nut plates that are attached to the car. The covers then hang on the nut extension. How are these nut plates attached to the car?

They attach to the same blind screws the trim attached to. You have to drill some holes in the front to mount the front cover to the side, 2 holes for the front bottom mount to mount into the frame and the rear screws into the frame. Check the AIM, there is a good description in there

Problem- trim plate removed long ago. Most screws were drilled out. I have the two brackets that hold it on to frame. Just not sure how to mount to car since there is only a 1/16 piece of steel plate left
