Default Drivers Side Vent Pipe

Hey guys I’m in the process of changing out the steel brake lines on the drivers side and noticed there are two lines, one is the brake line and the other is the vent pipe. Or Atleast that’s what the AIM says. Does this connect to the gas tank to vent out from there? I saw A few different diagrams and wanted to be sure that’s what it was. It wasn’t hooked up to anything besides a rubber hose pointed down to the ground. Is it necessary to have that pip if you do not have the canister installed?

Thanks in advance

It’s also a ‘74. There’s two lines running down the frame. One is the brake line and the other is the one I’m trying to figure out it’s purpose.

i dont know too much about removing the canister on these cars. I know a lot of people on other types of cars remove them. usually they cap off the end at the line or at the tank. on my old vw bug I have it blocked off. If you dont the fumes make your car smell like gas on hot days. and even if you cap it off, the gases can create pressure in the tank/lines and sometimes leak out in other areas. on my vw it gets pressurized on super hot days, the gas cap gets hard to remove. and when it comes off its like op[ening up a fresh soda can. psssh, but its gas fumes lol.
