Default How to remove 1970 headlight bezel

I'm trying to remove the headlight bezels on my 70 Vette. I put them in the up position and removed the 4 screws. It doesn't clear the body to just come forward. Do I have to remove the grille? I wanted to take them out to get them painted.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you do have squirted, that could be the problem. Early 70 had the squirters located on the horizontal surfaces, making it difficult to remove the bezel without first removing the lower squirter
That was corrected later in 70 by locating the squirters on the vertical surface between the lights which made the bezel removal much easier.

Make sure you place masking tape around he area of the nose where you intend to work. You don't want to have to touch up areas that you have scratched in the process of removing the bezels..

Hi SF,

Was doing this with my '73 a few days ago.
Yes it's a tight fit, but it'll go on. Tight between the bezel's lower front edge and the headlight door opening at the forward edge. Like Jax mentioned, tape that door opening's edge. I jiggled and forced it a bit, and it fell in and on.
If it has the washer feature, I'm ignorant of that. Listen to Dennis.

Yep. Assuming it's not the squirters getting in the way, try adjusting how far the buckets open. You can then adjust the aiming of your headlights.

I agree with Jaxlt1. Put some painters tape around the headlight opening. It will save a couple of nicks or chips in the area.

Put a ratchet and socket on this guy and watch the magic happen. I had one bezel that I couldn't get out comfortably until I found this adjustment.

Can never figure out why a nice car at the show has buckets that aren't flush with the front lip near the bumper.

Thanks for the info. I'm on vacation and won't be home for a couple of weeks. My car is #7316 and has the 5 port washer. The squirter's are on the horizontal, but I recall they are missing. Hope fully I can adjust them up and take them out.
