hey guys, i just bought a real nice 68 seat off one of the forum members..i really did not need another seat but this one had a real nice low latch back, and one of mine is junk. well i recieved it thur, after cleaning it up i noticed that the seat is what appears to be leather, and the back is not bare fiber glass painted, as my originals are. but covered in leather also? what the heck!! is this normal? maybe a deluxe int seat? if there is such a thing? give me your thoughts...thanks troy
Leather seats were optional in 68, but they used the same fiberglass seat backs as the base vinyl seats. Unlike 70 and later, where the leather seats were part of the Custom Interior option, that also included different carpet, door panel trim and woodgrain console trim, in 68 you just got leather seat covers.
It sounds like a previous owner had custom leather covers made for the seats and seat backs, or had the seat backs covered, for a custom look.
