5) DO NOT start the car periodically during the winter. It does more harm than good.
Nothing wrong with starting your car provided to run it long enough to vaporize the moisture in the exhaust system, heat the oil to normal operating temp for ~ 15 minutes / make sure the coolant circulates / opens thermostat.
For anyone interested there is a free smart phone app called Pure Gas that will show you who has ethanol free gas near you. After using the app I was surprised how many stations near me had pure gas. YMMV
Good tips in here. I'll be getting a bottle of stabil as well for the winter. there are no ethanol free gases in my area, is there an additive to counteract that?

Not according to this list for BC gas stations. You just have to shell out for premium.

I usually remove the keys and then in the spring put them back in and go for a drive, that's all.
I put my hard top on and take it out when it's nice. The past two winters my Corvette was my daily driver so I drove in on all but the snow/ice days. Now that it's not my daily driver (until my 15 year old takes over my commuter car) I'll still drive it all year.

Not the North East. the greenies up here love the ethanol,......... wish they would drink it. WASHINGTON -- The Trump administration is moving to allow year-round sales of gasoline with higher blends of ethanol, a boon for Iowa and other farm states that have pushed for greater sales of the corn-based fuel. President Donald Trump is expected to announce he is lifting a federal ban on summer sales of high-ethanol blends during a trip to Iowa on Tuesday. "It's an amazing substance. You look at the Indy cars. They run 100 percent on ethanol," Trump said at the White House before leaving for Iowa. He said he wants more energy production and to help farmers and refiners. "I want more because I don't like $74," Trump said referring to the current price of a barrel of crude oil. "If I have to do more -- whether it's through ethanol or another means -- that's what I want. I want low prices." The long-expected announcement is something of a reward to Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, who as Senate Judiciary Committee chairman led a contentious but successful fight to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The veteran Republican lawmaker is the Senate's leading ethanol proponent and sharply criticized the Trump administration's proposed rollback in ethanol volumes earlier this year. Grassley called the proposal "a very good victory for agriculture," ethanol workers and the environment. "Everything about this is good, good, good," Grassley said Tuesday after he and Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, met with Trump at the White House.
Yes.. The whole Midwest has been pushing for high volume ethenal because of all the corn we grow. I get it, but if I can't get non-ethanol with a minimum of 91 octtain I might as well park my vet or sell iit.
This sort of reminds me back in the day when unleaded became so popular and the price For leaded jumped considerably, When in fact unleaded gasoline, the lead had to be taken out of it making More refined not less. Never made any sense to me, but then government has never made much sense.

The unleaded fuel was the same as the goal of the ethanol. trying to throw money at the fuel to make it less of a pollutant. But with ethanol you use more energy creating more pollution to create it, then you get worse gas milage with it so you use more. My problem as it relates to OPs subject is how fast it evaporates and the residue it leaves behind. I have to pump my gas and spin the motor about 5 to 10 times depending on the last time I drove it to fill the bowl to get it to squirt enough fuel to start it the first time after a few days of sitting. If we get more ethanol and my problem gets worse I may end up with fuel injection which would still necessitate stabil for the winter months but stating it wouldnt be a problem

Look for the green/blue Marine grade Sta-bil. More expensive, but much better stuff for ethanol laced fuel.

Here in VA, for me fortunately winterizing my 79 means turning the temperature control to warm instead of cold. I have no problem taking mine out in the dead of winter, as long as the roads are clear and clean.
