Painting engine by hand
Here's a hint for exhaust manifolds:
I've used this for years and won many ISCA awards on cars I used to show. Works great, easy to use (I just use my finger to coat the manifolds), and lasts really well.
- Engine paint: POR15 metal prep + black anti rust; POR15 engine enamel chevy orange (all brushed by hand).
- Brackets etc. paint: VHT Engine enamel primer; VHT GM Satin-Black; some parts where painted VHT 'cast aluminum' (these parts were spray painted).
1
2. Engine degreased and cleaned
3. POR 15 metal prep
4. POR15 anti rust (coat 1)
5. POR15 anti rust (coat 2)
6. POR 15 Chevy orange engine enamel (2 coats)
7. Brackets pulleys etc. and waterpump sandblasted; Only the waterpump got a POR15 metal prep.
8. More sandblasting...
9. Waterpump painted (same products and steps as engine paint)
10. Brackets, pulleys and fan in place
11. New performer intake + restored vintage finned vave covers.
I ran into some extra work here because broken vacuum lines and some bolts that didn't fit etc.
Headers fitted with no problems(I find this was the easiest part!)
12. End
NO LEAKS on vacuum, intake, exhaust and running 'good' (because I still have to set timing and retune carb.)
It certainly runs better and for some reason cooler than before....???
