Default Considering buying a C6

I’ve owned and driven C3’s since I was 18 years old. Bought my first Corvette in 1981, it was a 1976 L82 4spd and I was 18 years old. I’ve had several C3’s since then.

However, I’m considering selling my current C3 and buying a 2011 C6 Grand Sport. I don’t have the room to keep both.

Has anyone ever done this? Will I regret it? Will I miss the C3?

The C6 is smoother riding, much faster and loaded with creature comforts.

Thoughts?????

I have a 2011 GS and I absolutely love it. Far and away the best all around vehicle I have ever owned.

Will you miss your C3,? Of course you will.

Will you enjoy the GS? Absolutely.

I have a 11 GS also. Great car and we love driving it. If you want to drive for 30 minutes or 30 days straight, it is the car for that. The 68 is raw by comparison, but to me is more fun to drive and gets a lot more attention. But... if I could only have only one it would be the GS.

I have had a c3 since 1972, which replaced a 67. The evaluation of the Corvette with refinements has happened since the first generation. You are jumping 3 generations, there is no comparison between the c3 and the c6. I have a 2011 convertible and enjoy driving it. It is quiet, fast, comfortable, and great on gas. I would miss owning the c3 if I ever got rid of it. It is also fun to drive in a different less sophisticated way. You hear tire noise, rear end noise, transmission noise (4 speed), engine noise, and poor gas mileage (14 vs 28 mpg). it takes an effort to get to go around a corner. But it just a raw, fun driving experience that will not be found in a c6 corvette and probably soon disappear from our driving scene forever.

Before you make your purchase, ask yourself why aren't you buying a C5 instead of a C6. The driving experience is fairly similar, and C5's are less expensive, and just as reliable. Is it because a C5 is old, doesn't get the looks, or the respect they used to? Well, that's what your C6 will be like 5 years from now, when mid engine C8's are everywhere and used C7's are bargains. In the meantime, the C3 will still be an adventure and rewarding to drive and worth 20% more than the are today.

Witch version of Corvette I used in any given day depended on whether I went to the track or out for errands.... :-)

My condolences

Someone sorta mentioned that anything after 82 is just a used car, that c6 will never be a classic,

But heres my real take on it,
When corvettes went from 62 to the very redesigned different 63 it was basically an entirely new vehical and even though much of the chassis and suspension was the same the 68 was a very different car to the 67.

Then a long run 68 to 82 going from beasts of chrome and high hp to transportation vehicles to discos to refinded 80s drivers.
Hard to compare a 69 427 4 speed convertible to an 81 coupe.

Then 84 an entirely new vehicle, again with c5 c6 c7.

The only thing really that generations share is the name "corvette" to me that ended in 82 but every big gen change should have gotten a new name but i know its marketing,
So when a cat wants to move up in gen i just see it as wanting a car thats more refinded, handles better and is faster etc, if you feel a c6 fits you and your life better than a c3 go for it,

Me, if i had to keep it and drive it i wouldnt take anything newer than 73

My biggest regret letting my modded 66 go, no power anything, hard top only,

I agree...the C-5 is more 'Corvetty' than C-6 (no pop-up lights) leaves me very MEH!

I own both a 1975 and a 2006 (see my avatar)

The cars are from completely different worlds and shouldn't be compared. If you only cruise around your local area; drive maybe 3,000 or 4,000 miles a year (also weather dependent), the C3 is great. If you drive more, want way more power and long-trip comfort and reliability, the C6 is excellent....

I would do it. I sold my c3 and bought a c6. It’s very interesting to look at all the similarities in the cars (styling cues). They are night and day different but it is fun to go back and forth between generations. Each one is a different experience but still a corvette.
