PO2 info
So I've been looking out for a set of PO2's as I have pics of my car wearing them when in Canada but they never made it across the pond to me. A set popped up on a Corvette Club UK site and I quickly snagged them without doing any research and they were a very good (cheap) price. So I collected them this week and quickly saw that the centres are different to those in the pics and looking into it, they would be Impala or Caprice I think. I just disassemble one and they're 3 parts, the outer lightweight trim, inner and heavy finned section and the centre cap. Only the centre cap has a model No.
So my question is can they be dated from the one code, were the two other parts standard and just the centres changed for Caprice, Impala or Corvette and would reproduction centres fit these things ?
Cheers,
Stuart

Can’t answer your questions, but here are pics of my “corvette” center caps that I took apart to replace the plastic crossed flags piece. Looking at your disassembled PO2’s, It looks possible that “corvette” replacement center caps may fit. Maybe others can chime in with their pics/experience. Fran

I bought the same ones for my 71. Kind of like the flush look to be honest. The replacement centres are crazy expensive. Around $200 US, so thats like $5000 Canadian pasos LOL. Will live with the Impala ones for now.

You can get the caps at the above link. They can freshen up a set since they are getting harder to find.

Thanks Blue.
It looks as though the centre cap is changeable then.

Thanks RVZIO. I've emailed zip and asked if they're interchangeable
Stuart
Any chance of a pic of the backside of the cover to see how the centre cap fixes ? The flat cap I have removed has 4 studs and looks larger than the Corvette specific cap and is a one piece item. From Blue's pics above, the Corvette specific cap is made up of several pieces..

Ta,
Zip just kind of confirmed that they are interchangeable and send a pic of one they have in stock that looks like it was recovered from a major wreck, then smashed with a hammer before being eaten by the dog

Just my two bits . . . .
If you get the chance to choose, go with the vette style center caps or every C3 expert out there will point out to you that you have the wrong hubcaps. LOL!
On the other hand I think the none flat center caps nicely offset my LS7!

Nice car!
I do get to choose as the existing caps are trashed. They have the Corvette type on Zip at $60 odd each so quite spendy but definitely needed. I'm going to test fit one tonight before I pull the trigger just to be sure..

Ordered the Corvette type caps from Zip. I've yet to see how much I'll get reamed on freight & import duty on top of the initial cost.
Before ordering the caps, I wanted to see how they would look cleaned up a tad:
Breakdown & clean
3 hours of masking & bleeding
Painted with what paint I had to hand but final will be a satin finish
Very labour intensive but satisfying all the same

Not an experienced painter so it took me three attempts to get them to a quality that I'm happy with. It was all in the pre-paint prep !
Reminder of the starting material:
And now:
Wheels are off and just painted with silver argent so will have to wait a week to see them mounted
