And she probably thought parking away from the other cars would prevent a door ding!

only parallel park, mine is never out of sight when in public.
I used to cruise Hampton Beach, NH. Parking was always difficult anywhere.
one evening, I was parallel parking in front of a nice house on the beach.
the owner saw me and came out, I thought he was going to tell me NO parking.
We chatted, he admired, and he said anytime you are here, you park in my driveway ! ... your car will be safer !
made a new friend, and always had free safe parking after that ! @ the beach !

Very simple; Two rules;
1. 'The North Dallas Fourty' rule.....park it 200 feet from the nearest car, in a corner.
2. Beater car rule....going somewhere where you have to worry about it....take the 'Beater'.

Okay funny sad but true story from the UnkaHal archives.

I've Had the 69 L-46 Convert for over 40 years.
After about 10 years in my stewardship, the car's paint was pretty ratty....the original laquer having gave up the ghost.

I moved from MA to VT.
I marshaled my 'troops' and all my vehicles to effect the move.
One of my buddies got my '78 K-5 4x4 Blazer.
We all (6 vehicles) proceed to drive up to the new house.
After about 2 hours, the troops want a rest-stop.
We pull into a highway rest stop/gas station thingie and I park the Vette FAR, FAR, FAR, (900 feet) down the parking lot from where my troops are parked.
We all take a break and are chatting.
SCARIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN.....the K-5 blazer starts moving across the parking lot at like 5 miles and hour...with nobody in it!
By the time we saw it...it was 3/4's of the way to the Vette....moving like a demented EXOCET missile, hell bent on the vette!
We could not catch it.....
WHACK! straight into the drivers side of the 69.
Broken fiberglass in the rear quarters and door.

He who shall remain nameless....did not put the Blazer in PARK......left it in D. RUNNING!

We made it home.....he did not get a Christmas card that year!

Next spring the body resto started!

cheers and happy T-give

What would insurance cover?

And my garage is just as bad as a parking lot - cramped quarters with the added bonus of 2 kids swinging bike tire pumps and play shovels and making contact more than once.

The insurance was 'self insured' LOL.

The Blazer was un- scratched!

I needed 'medical' insurance after spending 50 hours 'zip-stipping' the car by hand....that stuff is NASTY! lol.

Ps. Here in AZ I use the 'double cover' for parking at work....will fend of door dings and bird strikes!

Glad I`m not alone in that! Most of my cars have "war wounds" inflicted by my kids when they were young.

If either Vette is driven, it’s really only driven to known locations with known “safe” parking available like these two spots at my in-laws apartment.

Scratches and dings will eventually happen, as surely as stone chips. Park the car away from others where possible and just don't sweat it, it'll take away your enjoyment of the car if you stress about every little mark. It'll still shine up nice, and when eventually the paint is tired, paint it. I don't really understand the logic, to me it's up there with not driving a car because of stone chips, or because it puts wear on the tyres or whatever. Use it, wear it out, and fix it again.

My namesake and I must be cut from the same cloth. This is what I do too, exactly.
