Default 1971 stingray rear drive side tire knocks

What would cause this to happen when I shift. Is it a u joint maybe? Just started a couple days ago.

Could be. Could also be your front differential mount. There are rubber bushings there that wear out.

FWIW: what you're hearing is probably not the tire. Pull it off, put on the spare, take a test drive, and see if you still hear the knock.
