Now that I've owned my '71 LS5 for over 43 years, why does the decal read Turbo Jet?

Turbo-Jet was a GM trade name for engines.

I could be 100% wrong but I always thought the small block air cleaner decals showed “Turbo Fire” while the big blocks showed “Turbo Jet”.

And the 6 cylinder ( non Corvette) motors were called "turbo thrift"

Further info on this, Corvair flat six motors were designated "Turbo-Air", regardless of whether the motor had a turbo or not.

And one of the early 60's straight sixes was even called "Hi-Thrift".

Very true! When I was a kid, my buddy's allways told me that I had the worst "Turbo farts" (My opology for that inappropriate reply!)
