Default 68 427 power steering bracket layout?

hi guys, i am having trouble with getting my power steering brackets layed out right?? the AIM is a poor picture, so i went too my NCRS book and that is different also!!?? in the AIM bracket #3878239 shows at one end mounting too the #3878240 and the other end going too #3878236..well i did it that way but i had too bend my 3878239 up pretty good to do that..[mind you, i did not take these apart all were in a crate] now, the NCRS book almost looks like the 3878239 goes too a stud? maybe on the water pump? the picture is not clear? i am posting pictures of my motor the way i have it now. and pictures of the books also..i do not have my water pump on yet because i am looking for a rebuild kit for it.. could someone take pictures of the proper layout and install of these brackets on a 427 please...thank you troy

those two definitely contradict each other. I know later on (72 shown here) the bracket goes to the water pump with a stud like the second pic shows but the strap bracket is different. Don't know if /when it changed

Mooser, On a 69 L36 the bracket you show on the water pump attaches to the bolt just above on the upper alternator bracket. The stud on the upper water pump bolt where it is attached in the pic is for the smog pump bracket. Probably wouldn't matter much if you aern't using a smog pump.

Hey Troy,
I was just struggling with this yesterday. The way you have it looks correct I think. What I would suggest is that the bracket 3878239 (#15 in AIM) that you have is not correct. I presume this is the one you had to bend. Mine looks a little different and bent in a different spot.
Good luck. Pete

Thanks,

Yes, it's a 69 PS car but the same both 68 and 69. It still has the original smog pump and the pump adjusting brace comes off the water pump stud. It looks like that alt bracket will swing up or down to either position but the smog pump brace won't.

I just checked the latest TIMJG (page 147) and it says all 327/350 and NON power steering ONLY 427 cars both 68 and 69 were attached to the upper left water pump hole/fastener. Power steering equipped 427 cars were not attached there. Realistically, I guess it could be run in either position...
