Lost keys

I've lost my 1977 corvette keys. Do i have to replace my ignition or can i get keys using my VIN and key code? Thanks

Call Chevy dealer and ask. Unlikely though. Call a local locksmith. They can do a lot without removing locks.

A good lock smith will use a blank key, insert it in the door or ignition and turn it so the tumblers make marks on the blank key. Then take the key out and with a magnifying glass look for the marks and grind the notches to match. It's a bit of trial and error but I watched our local lock smith do just that on a mid-70's car. Took him about 30 minutes. My thought at the time was he could steal any car he wanted that didn't a chip in the key.

That might work, but if you can get one of the lock cylinders out of the doors you can take that to a locksmith who can then make you a key from the numbers on the cylinder. Many moons ago I pulled a trunk latch from a 36 Ford coupe and took it to a locksmith in San Clemente, Ca., He pulled a book from a shelf and matched the numbers on the cylinder to info in the book and cut me a new key.
