Default 1968 Tail lights

Are the 68 tail lights lens the same diameter as the 1974 lens ? I was thinking I might replace the bubble lens I now have with the 68 lens if they are the same size. Can anyone help ?

The 74 lamps are about 5 1/8" in diameter, while the 68-73 lenses are 4 7/8" diameter. Being slightly smaller, the lens should fit ion the bumper, but the 68 lenses are hooded. From about 2 to 10 o'clock, the outer edge of lens is flush, but from about 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock, the top of the lens has about a 1" wider "hood" on it. This hood would likely stick out of the top of the hole in your bumper.

The 74 lamps were a one year only design, made up of a lamp housing and lens, bonded together as a one piece assembly. 68-73's and 75-79's used a two piece tail lamp, with a separate housing and lens, held together by screws. The aftermarket bubble lenses are made in two pieces, like the 68-73 and 75-79 tail lamps. Unfortunately, you can't use 75-79 lenses, because they mount with 2 screws, while the 68-73 lenses, and the bubble lenses, use 3 screws.

My Corvette is a 74. I bought a set of bubble lights here on the forum. They were mounted on a set of 74 lamp housings with three screws just screwed through the housing. Not the prettiest but they do work. I was thinking about mounting the 68 lens upside down to take care of the hooded part. If nothing else just to see what they look like. If the diameter is smaller that could be a problem. I guess I`m just experimenting
