Default Door jamb question

Can someone tell me what the angled metal peice is for on the bottom of the jamb? I noticed some have it and some don’t. Maybe a water diverted?

Hey nutsy, that's my door jamb in the photo. Does your '71 have them?

my car came with the interior in pieces. I hadnt come across them yet. I was looking to order door sills and noticed that i cant find diverters for that year, so i wasnt sure if i originally had them or not.
i cant look for screw holes right now since the car is not local to me just this second

74 under door sill view pop rivets

Later 74-77 style

1978-79 unique style

1980 style

74 view with sill removed pop rivet holes

1981

Later 1968 rubber type glued in place

Early 69 Fiber glass strip glued in place. Later 69-71 diverters were pop riveted in place as shown on the green car posted by nutsy above!

Heres a little history of the different types of water diverters(deflectors) used throughout the C3 generation as a result of my peaked interest and research on these. Early 68 cars did not have them. Sometime around April 68 they started to show up for the first time. These were a black rubber strips about 1 1/4 in.by 4 1/2 in. and we're just glued in place. It has been said that some owners of the earlier cars had the dealer install these on their cars because of water entering the car. These were also found on really early 69's, until later on around vin#6612 the diverter became a thin body color fiberglass strip. These were first glued in place, then around vin 28242 they started to be pop riveted in place. They measured about 1/2 in by 4 inches. This type which is shown above ( post by nutsy) in the photos remained through 71. For some odd reason they were no longer used during the 72,73 and earlier 74 cars. Then in 74 around mid to late November 73 they started to use the diverter again. This time it was unpainted aluminum with a thin black rubber strip attached with two pop rivets underneath the sill plate. These continued to be used but in various styles throughout the C3 generation. I'm including photos showing the different type throughout the years. But I may have some difficulty getting them in correct order because of the changes made to this forum when it relates to posting photos. Note that the eBay listing stating that the diverters were the same from 68 on is clearly incorrect!
Hope this helps!
Tooch
AS YOU CAN SEE I DID HAVE AN ISSUE LOADING THE PHOTOS. AGAIN, WHY THEY LOAD BEFORE THE TEXT IS A MYSTERY TO ME. Never had this issue in previous year's posts. I appologize for that. But I think you see the differences throughout the C3 generation. Interesting that I loaded the two silver 74 photos without the door sill plate yet they uploaded separately.???? AGAIN WHATEVER CHANGES THIS FORUM MADE HAS REALLY MADE POSTING PHOTOS AN INTERESTING CHALLENGE TO SAY THE LEAST.

Thanks for taking time to post Tooch1. Interesting to see the little changes that were made over the years.
