Does anyone recognize what might have caused this power steering pump to get so far out of alignment? Also, the pulley seems to be very close to the cross member (cannot be seen in the photo above). And, does anyone have a suggestion for its repair?
We have not disassembled it yet, we're in the midst of working on the brakes, clutch, and cooling system. We just purchased the vehicle and are trying to get it driving.
Looking from the top, there are two mounting bolts. Does the top bolt have a washer between the bracket and the block? In others words did someone put a spacer / washer between block & bracket?
Don't worry about the contact of pulley & crossmember. A brand new belt will bring the pump up a little higher.

When that happened on my '71 BB, it was a broken piece on the rear of the lower PS bracket. Here's a photo of a small block lower PS bracket. The arrow shows the piece that might be broken off.
