Default 1969 Seat Question

Purchased a low mileage 1969 'Vette a while back and have made many changes, including interior. The original interior was Bright Blue and had replacement leather seats (in great condition) which I am looking to sell. Question: Did the '69 seat come with or without a headrest? I am thinking 'with' as I received vinyl headrests with the car. Also found a tag on the underside of the seat reading: 3958735 LS1-UC- 279-8-1 and 3958735 LS1-UC- 290-8-2. Can anyone explain or decode the tag?

Thanx, Corvette Forum.

68 gead rests were optional, a sign of things to come. All 69s had head rests, a mandatory safety requirement. T

the metal receptacles for the head rests on the top of the seats have been covered over. Run your finger overs the top of the seat, center section. You should feel a metal piece with a slot in the center.

Thank you, Mel...yes, I can feel it. Is their a bezel/escutcheon that attaches to the seat where the head rests post goes in?

Yes, just slit the material with a pocket knife and reinstall the trim piece. My recollection is that the headrest goes in at an angle to go past the catch (google the procedure, that's how I found it)

The 3958735 is likely a GM part #. The tags were Julian dated so I am pretty sure the 290-8-2 is the 290th day of 1968. The remaining "2" may be a shift #. The other would be the 279th day of 1968. If my math is right that would be Oct 7th of 1968 and Oct 17th of 1968. I am still trying to research the LS1 UC part but I have seen that on other 68/69 tags and it is pictured in the Bizzoco book. Maybe someone else can lend their opinion on that.
