Default Exhaust pipe interference with spare tire tub 1968

How much does the rear spring lower when the car is lifted and the wheels are hanging on their own? My exhaust pipe interferes with the spare tire tub and I was thinking of moving the exhaust from directly under the center of the rear to slightly either side of the differential. It's a monoleaf if that matters. Thank you.

I think you will create different problems by just shifting things over. I recently bought the Corvette Central 2.5 exhaust all the way back to include the mufflers. Fit great. It tucked in nicely under the car and fit around the spare tub. You might want to take a look at that.

The thing is this is a fairly new 2 1/2 SS system that the previous owner installed just before I bought the car. I still don't understand why its installation didn't allow for the tire tub to fit properly. I'm bringing it to a well respected muffler shop in the morning. I've explained the set up to them over the phone and they're confident that a bend here and a bend there will do the trick. I'll post the outcome. Thank you.

Carl I am not sure if any of this will help you but:

Still cleaning it all up, but I wonder if: 1 They put the exhaust in without the tub in place. 2: They left the spare tire out of the tub. I know that if I pull out my spare the tub goes up much higher. So You may want to check how much the spare alters the tub position as it relates to the exhaust.

God luck!! PMed you on a unrelated question! Ike

Ike- I am able to bolt the tub in place, but it cannot be lowered. The pipes should have more of a 90 as they pass the diff and approach the mufflers. This leads me to agree with you that the pipes were probably installed without the tub in the picture. I'm bringing the tub with me to the muffler shop in the morning. The muffler guy agreed I should. Stay tuned. Thanks

If you wait, I can take a picture of the Corvette Central 2.5" exhaust so you can show it to your muffler guy tomorrow. PM me or write here if you so desire..... I was impressed with how well it fit on my 50 year old car.

Hey, guys! I have a spare tire tub under my car, the pipes don't interfere with it, and I can get to the spare.

The job was done today by a shop, Daytona Converter. From the mid section back to the mufflers was redone. Neat, clean, meticulous work. I was tempted to have them redo the whole system- that's how impressed I was with their work ethic. Very satisfied. Thanks for the input.

@carriljc Pictures of a spare tire tub in operation would bore you.
