Speed warning in speedometer
My '68 roadster has the speed warning indicator in the speedometer. What exactly does it do?
I see the thing under the dash to set it but how does it work? Buzzer, lights ignition kill switch?

You set the speed limit needle to where you want the buzzer (alarm) to go off. The speedo needle has a small tab that contacts the speedminder needle and completes a ground to the buzzer. The speedometer needle will continue to go up with your increased speed but the buzzer will continue to make noise until you drop below the set speed. Willcox has a good diagram and explanation of the operation on the Tech section of there website.

bkvette3 not sure if you do Facebook but if you do there’s a great group of 68 only Vette’s page. I’ve learned a lot from those guys. Ask a 68 specific question and it normally gets several answers

I also have the speed warning option in my '68 Vette. I agree, Nowhere Man - cool, useless and gimmicky at the same time - mid sixties technology, baby. Forgot that it was available in '67 also. Twenty one hundred and eight units out the door with $10.55 option U15 in '67.

Wow $11.60 I love these option prices!!! I wonder how much that would be today, well I actually looked it would be $80. Gimmicky yes but way cool! One speeding ticket avoided would pay for it. Ike

I just had mine apart for a worn worm gear and the are a lot more complicated than a normal speedo ,the speed warning needle is riveted to the face and has a small contact on it to make the buzzer work at the set speed and a lot of small gears under the face .

I've built these in the past and while they are simple I've always called it a gimmick option. A simple grounding spring on the needle that makes a buzzer go off... lol.
Here is a link to the info I've got on the tech site.
