Default how can you tell what date your C3 was built in St, Louis, MO?

How can you tell what date your C3 was built in St, Louis, MO? Some parts say they are for (E) early or (L) late? Is it by serial number and is there a chart with serial numbers vs.dates produced? Thanks for any help!

I've been curious about that same item. I've got several early '69 parts on my car, so I'm assuming my car was built in fall of '68, but it would be amusing to know what date it made it out the door.

From what I understand, the trim tag has a code that may help. If you know what to look for. You could opt to become a member of the NCRS. For 40 bucks they will send you a shipping report for your Vette, if it exists. This report will tell you what day and month the car rolled off the line, and what dealership it was sent to.

Yes, I just pulled out my window sticker and there is nothing I see on it that gives a build date that I see!

The time built code on the trim tag is pretty close. It tells you on that date your car arrived at the station on the assembly line where the tag was attached. The car was not complete at that point and would have needed another working day (or day and a half) before it was finished.

If they have your VIN in their database, you can get a shipping data report from the NCRS which will list the date GM determined the car was finished and the name of the original dealer. As an example, the time built date on my 68 is April 20. That was a Saturday. My shipping report lists April 22 as the date the car was finished.

Please pardon my ignorance here, but how is that date code "formulated"? The 10 makes sense, but I'm curious about the Q. Was that due to the '69 being a long model year?

My plate says either D13 or O13 (there's a slight scratch on the left side of the letter). Due to the early '69 door glass and wiper door actuator in my car, I'm guessing that D13 would be the more correct guess. Would November 13, 1968 be the ballpark date on my car?

Thanks for any help or corrections.

A couple of years ago I obtained the Shipping Invoice from GM Heritage. I've tried to pass on the web address to friends since, but it no longer loads up. Have GM passed on all their info to NCRS?

Default Trim Tag

Ed,
from what Ive learned from reading, the trim tag starts with A in August of previous year.
Engine and all other components start with Letter A in January of production year.
My K14 translates to June 14th. My tank sheet shows an order date of May .
My car is a 1968.

Thanks for all the help here, guys. Doing the trim tag "decode" (Nov 13), plus adding a day or two for finishing, agrees with the link calculator date of November 15, 1968.

Thanks again.

I found this phone app called Corvette birthday calculator. It comes up like the old mechanical odometers. You scroll to the year and last 5 of the vin and it gives its birthday. My tag is L18, July 18, 1969 and the calculator shows July 24, 1969. I wonder what the difference of 6 days represent? The time from when the car was built until the time it left St Louis????

The birthday book is only an approximation based on the number of cars manufactured in a month divided by the number of working days. The tag is when the body passed that point on the line, as opposed to when the car rolled off the line (production date). Your supposed 6-day gap is unusual, even with the 20th and 21st being a Saturday and Sunday. It may have been pulled off the line to rectify something.
