82 tach fail
Looking for some troubleshooting advice. The 82 in question had a battery discharge and replaced with a new one. After start up the tach went to 7K and stuck. Prior to the battery going dead, it worked fine. I'm going to start with checking fuses and then the tach filter before I pull the tach to check the circuit board. I replaced a tach circuit board on my last 82 so I know how to get to it and check it out (thanks Willcox for your detailed process!!). Is there anything else I should look at? Thanks.
Is it stuck at 7k all the time or only when the ignition is on/car is running? Also do you see ANY movement in the tach needle while it's at 7k? I would unplug the tach wire from the distributor to see if the needle drops to zero. If not I would say your needle somehow got stuck...

Stuck all the time. Good call on maybe it pegged and got stuck. I should get to the car this weekend. I'll be able to isolate it better. Friend's car. He called me because I've owned two 82's before. Thanks for your input.
