Default Cigarette Lighter Bulb

I've been doing some interior work lately, and one of the parts that keeps showing up on vendor sites for my 1978 is the cigarette lighter bulb and housing. It's listed as a part for 63-82, but I've never seen a shade, socket, or bulb anywhere near my cigarette lighter. Was this available for 1978, or was it only on earlier C3s?

If it is supposed to be on my car, where is the socket supposed to be powered from? I don't see a wire for this socket anywhere in my console area.

Thanks!

FWIW: check the bulb chart in your owner's manual and see if it lists a bulb for the lighter.

I have a 73 and am working on my console. There is a bulb and socket for the lighter. I had to get a replacement from a local parts store, and it worked. That was a surprise.
From my memory it was only 1 wire that goes to the area. It uses a metal cover over the socket and bulb to attach to the lighter area. I am thinking the metal acts as a ground
for it.

regards
kdf

If it's the one I'm thinking of - check above your vents in the center gauge cluster - there's a bump there with a tiny hole the light shines
down on the heater, lighter and defroster on my '79 - you have to take the cluster screws out and pull it forward to get to the bulb and
wiring for it.
Circled mine here...if this is like yours...

it does require a special bulb, IIRC it is a #558 but don't quote me on that. Ecklers has them for 3.99 I believe.

The bulb I'm speaking of isn't the projector bulb above the gauges. The parts I keep seeing are listed below. (Corvette Central & Willcox) I have the feeling that the vendor sites have the applicable years listed incorrectly, as this seems like something you'd find on an earlier C3.

It's clipped onto the housing of the lighter, underneath the console so you wouldn't see it normally, not sure what year they had them on, 74-75 at least until they changed the console design

My lighter does not have this shade. It does have the slots in the housing under the console that look like the shade could be attached to, though. My guess is this was discontinued in the later years. I'll have to check my owner's manual as Easy Mike suggested when I get home.

Sure enough, that bulb is listed in the owner's manual. It's labeled as "Cigarette Lighter Lamp" with a Candle Power of 7 and a type of 1445.
