Default AC Delco AC Compressor issue

I have just re-commissioned my AC on my 1979 which has a AC Delco R4 AC compressor installed. When the AC is turned and I slowly accelerate through the REV range I get a rattle/clicking from the clutch on the AC compressor which starts at 800 RPM, is worst at 850 RPM and goes away after 900 RPM. If the AC is turned off then there is no rattle/clicking through the rev range.

Any thoughts on what this may be and how to resolve?

Thanks, Alan

Are you sure the noise isn't the clutch engaging and disengaging as it cycles? Is the air blowing cold?

The air is blowing cold .. the noise only occurs between 800 and 900 RPM. I may be wrong but I would have thought If it was the normal cycle of the clutch engaging and disengaging I would expect it to happen at idle and at other points in the rev range.

Can you hold the throttle at 2k rpm and watch the clutch to see if it cycles on and off at that rpm? I think it will cycle more at lower rpm than higher.
