Default Crate motor research

I was just gifted a '82 Corvette base model and am so excited to start driving it around. My grandpa, who gifted it to me, swapped the engine years ago after he bought it around 1999. He says it has a GM crate motor 350ci in it and a different transmission (3spd auto). It's not that I don't believe him, but I would like to verify this info myself. Does anyone know of a good resource for that sort of information?

Also, where should I look on the engine or the transmission for part numbers, make, model, etc.?

Thanks. Looking forward to being apart of this forum.

On the drivers side look past the rear of the cyl head if you can see it. Below that on the top of the block there should be a pn
Taking a pic may help also, could be a basic goodwrench 350, zz3, 4, they made a # of them. Tons of knowledgable guys here

If its because its not a powerhouse they never were brand new.

The pad in front of right cyl head. Reach under car and snap pic of trans oil pan. Google is your friend. ID'ing the pan will tell you which type trans.

I have a 72 with a crate dropped in around the same time...Late 90's. Mine has a remanufactured tag on it and all the freeze plugs have run hot indicators on them. I posted the pic below, it's located on the drivers side of the block. My tag does not indicate who rebuilt it but maybe yours has a tag and it does.

Throw up a pic of the block casting number on top of the bellhousing mount on the driver side, a pic of the engine overall, and the front pad by the water pump in front of the head. You can also pull a valve cover and get the number for the heads to tell you even more.....
