Default '79 Front Splash Shields

At least that's what I think they are, bottom rear of each front fender, somewhat closes off the engine compartment.

How much good do they do? Thinking about removing the drivers side as it seems the perfect place to mount a remote oil filter. Anyone else try this?
No more oil on the headers, longer full sized filter, easy to get to.

without a picture how do we know whether you are talking about an aftermarket add-on or an actual factory component that should not be removed?

Left side usually has the carbon canister above it and the right has the vir, your year car may vary. I cant access those shields on mine, they are right above the side pipe headers.

The driver's side splash shield was missing from my 78 when I bought it. The carbon canister above it was covered in mud, so it seems that the splash shield does indeed shield things from getting splashed.

Oh I've removed a lot of factory components, probably still some to come.

Those are already both gone on mine, just more factory components waving goodbye.

Hmmm, okay that is useful. Maybe I'll make the panel a quick release item and still hide the oil filter there.
