I want to paint the pulley on my original alternator.
Can I just loosen the pulley by turning the bolt, or do I have to be aware of something?
Can I do something to safely clean the aluminum parts of the alternator? (there is alot of pitting)
Or isn't it worth the energy to clean the alu some more?
Typically a good impact wrench will bust the nut loose, but if it fails then you'll need to put an allen wrench in there and hold shaft while you loosen the nut.
But... and I'm by no means a 77 specialist, but I don't believe the fan on your alternator is correct. What numbers are on the alternator? The fan on a 1977 alternator would have been a metal fan not the plastic replacement shown in your picture. The original fan would have looked like the one below.
So... if you desire to remove the fan and paint it that's okay, if you wish to make the aluminum housing look better get some Krylon "Dull Aluminum" paint, spray this on a rag and rub it on the case.... You'll be amazed at how nice and original it will look.
IMHO,

I think I will keep the 'not original fan' that is on it.
It's metal.
Does the alternator get hot?
Or will a standart spray paint for metal do the job (painting the fan black)?
If you want it to look nice and be the right color, Eastwood Paints makes a spray can called Alumablast (sp?) Its specifically for hot engine parts like your alternator.

The Krylon Dull aluminum is cheaper and works perfect... If you spray it on a rag and rub it on.... I'm doing a write up on this for the tech site but don't have it done yet. I've used this method for years on customers cars as well as my own 62 FI unit and valve covers.... I did my valve covers 15 years ago and they still look brand new. You can usually pick this up at your local hardware store.

I've still got a can of vht cast aluminum paint laying aroud...
Would that do the job (rubbing it on with rag)?
I've noticed that the fan part is metal and plastic...
Should a regular spray paint 'dupli color' or so do the job? I painted my fan shroud black (cheapest spray paint I could get 3 €), still have to see if it can srand the engine bay heat...
Why not leave it raw? are they supposed to be painted?
I think i just brasswire brushed mine raw with degreaser and painted the pulley. i also masked off the little plate edges where its bolted together so they dont rust.
