Hi Guys,
I have recently converted back up lights to tail lights on the 72, and am looking for suggestions on new back up lights. Anyone done this and happy with the aesthetics and functionality of their solution? I have been leaning to something mounted inconspicuously on the spare tire tub or license plate frame. Thanks all. Dave
I bought one of the license plate brackets with the LEDs built in.... then found out it wouldn`t fit inside the chrome bezel. So I cut them off, and mounted them on a piece of 1/2" by 1/2" angle. Plastic spacers cut at an angle allow it to sit level, even though it`s mounted to the curved valence. Total cost (not including tail lights) about twenty bucks!
Mooser thanks for the suggestion. Do you feel it provides enough lighting? I have a very dark tinted back window so even the stock back up lights seemed barely adequate.
Ignatz I wish my fab skills were sufficient to duplicate your efforts. It looks like a factory piece! I'm in Los Gatos/Saratoga. Would love to meet you.
Thanks Dave

The LED strips I used are COB stupid bright, that said the actual lumen value is unknown, I find they are brighter than the stock lights were but it's a single light in the middle. Dual strips with the reflectors like oldgto might through a wider area

Really like the set up Old GTO! do you remember where and which frame it might have been?
Thanks much

I agree, for the most part.... but it seems they dropped the ball on a couple issues. 1. I want people behind me to SEE me. Four stop--tail--turn lights is better than two 2. Front center grill looks odd way back in there, so I moved it out 4 inches 3. Wiper door stainless should be polished & shiny, not body color And THAT is what makes the hobby so much fun...individuality. How boring would it be if they all looked the same..... like most of the modern cars on the road today? NO THANKS!
