I just did this on my 68. It was easy since I had the dash out already for another project..........Ya those words suck at any other time. Well any way, theres a grommet in the rear stoarge compartment that pulls out easily and the cable is run under the rear carpet and down the drivers door along the sill plate. I had that out for some wiring. It then traverses under the door area to the kick panel, again out for wiring. Up the left footwell past the fuse panel, up behind the dash. If you have the dash hanging you can see it traverse behind the gauges all the way over to the center console where it dives down behind the cluster to the radio. Good luck. Maybe if you do this you should replace all your dash bulbs or find another project to combine with so your not pulling it all apart again.
I was also putting in new gauges on my pillar as well as putting in a power antenna, painting my steering column andinstalling an auxillary fuse box so it wasnt too much of a hassle
A recap with a more precise description of what I was already working with, you may need to only do a few of these......maybe
1 drivers seat out of the car
2 steering column out of the car, you may be able to disconnect the bolts and let it droop
3 door sill out of the car
4 kick panel out of the car
5 quarter trim out of the car
6 dash board hanging with all wires still connected......that saves alot of hassle
If you are still youngish and thin and flexible, you may be able to leave the steering column and dash alone and just pull the seat so you can lay on your back with a headlamp and rerun the cable. Mine wasnt in a cable run or harness so it was easy to pull and install the new one.
