Hey all, I just would love your opinions, but I assume from what you have all taught me is that this is another repro trim tag. The Vette is black so right away I questioned the validity of it.
So I see a wrong "C", "9", the rivets are too flat and the pin is still there, the "L24" is too low ( although I guess that could happen when GM struck them but I have never seen it and I assume they used a jig to avoid that) the plate is warped around the "L24" possible when it was struck.
Am I correct? I truly think the owner does not even know. I often debate on whether I should say something or not if I am correct?
Looks like a '69 Black on Black....nice!
I try to keep my trim tag looking good, but that one sure looks new.
I wasn't sure if that was warping or light reflection. Also, the bottom of the tag looks bowed.

Dave as I scrolled down I saw the first pic and for a second I thought that was your tag, Yikes!!!. But then I scrolled down and there was your correct tag . I see the difference. Mine is shinny like yours but there is just something different no matter how well you have taken car of it!!!!! Thanks for fixing my pic and posting your for comparison. Ike
If I was doing a pre-purchase inspection of this I would have some concerns.
The rivets are definitely suspect, and looking at tag samples I have on my computer, I don't like some of the letters in "Chevrolet", in particular the "C", "E" and "R", as well as the first "E" in "dealer". To my way of thinking, the letters are just too fuzzy looking also. The stamping of the "General Motors" info on the bottom of the tag is usually much crisper, though admittedly that could be from reflections in the tag?
The "L24" is a little close, but I've seen variations in the placement of the date.
Seeing the tag in person, I might feel differently, but the rivets are enough to make me uncomfortable with the car.
Its fake. All you need to look at is the C in Chevrolet. Don't have to go any further. A genuine tag has the C in Chevrolet that has a pointed top an bottom. The Fake is to curved. As for the L24. If you notice, the L is the same size as the P in Paint. It should not be. The L should be smaller. If you look at VB's tag, you will notice the letter O in O31 is smaller than the fonts used in CHEVROLET and TRIM. All the stamped fonts should be slightly smaller than the fonts used for TRIM, CHEVROLET and PAINT.

1968 Blue on Blue Trim Tag
Here is my trim tag....I assume it is original as the car was Blue on Blue from the factory per the trim tag and the blue paint still showing in a few places both interior and exterior. Then it was changed to Red on Black later. Funny that they painted over it and then brushed the paint off (mostly).
Thanks all, greatly appreciated!!!I just wanted to double check before walking away and remind those in the market that such things exist and are prevalent.. To me the "C" is the most obvious, I have trouble with the "9". Rivets are too big and flat There is something about the overall look besides how shinny it is that's off.
Has anyone seen such bad alignment before on a correct tag?
This is the second trim tag from a NYS upstate dealer that is probably fake. One on a car they are selling currently and this car that the seller states he bought 11 years ago from them. Buyer beware!!!!!
Sad!!!!! You can't trust anything. These are not super duper rare or ridiculously expensive cars.
So do I tell the seller??? Thoughts? Thanks again!!! Ike

I also have ZQ4 trim on my 69 but the Z and Q are slightly smaller and thicker than in the "Chevrolet" fonts right above. Yours look to be the same in both.

the seller is not compelled to believe you or to take your statement as from an expert.
all you can say is that you showed the foto to someone you think as knowledgeable and that it was stated it was aftermarket.
does not prove that the car is not a black car originally. your seller can simply state that the car is black originally and you can't prove that it is not.
Very true joewill. It could in theory be a black car that the trim tag got damaged and was replaced with a repro. The only thing we know is that the tag is not a original the rest is speculation.
The issue is with the asking price. It’s in the price range that it needs to be majorly correct and that's were the real issue for me at least is.
