The lower drivers dash is cracked and broken. Can this be repaired? I don't know what kind of material GM used to make the dash....looks like some kind d of resin. Has anyone repaired using polyester resin or possibly epoxy resin with fiberglass mat? Below is a picture of the broken piece.
Take a Dremel tool and a V bit and grind out that crack to a V shape being careful not to hit the outer vinyl
Dremels come in most cases with a dove tail bit that'll work great for you if you use it on the side but you'll have to take your time.
Then scuff the entire area around the crack with some 80 grit to ruff it up.... Next go find what is called "Plastic Fusion" or "Plastic Weld" most parts stores carry this two part epoxy and it works like a champ.
The material is ABS plastic and this stuff works great for fixing cracks like the one shown in your picture. What you'll need to do is feather it out and scuff about 1/2" on both sides of the crack to add some strength but it'll work just fine. The scuffing gives the epoxy something to bite to.

JB Weld makes some, forget exactly what it is called. Personally I have been using a dry powder fix for many years on motorcycles called Plastex. You can even form complete new tabs, etc with it as it is basically powdered ABS plastic and it comes with the catalyst to form it into whatever shape you want. It works great for fabrication as well as repairing existing parts. If it survives on my race bike with vibrations of 18k RPMs and 180mph winds, it is ok in my book =)
Nope.. it's just a two part epoxy made exclusively for ABS plastic.... We use the stuff in my shop constantly. you can refill dash pad stripped holes, cracks, fix ears on the vent ducts, and so on.... The stuff is great. But like I said above if you are fixing a cracked dash pad it's always best to go wide, scuff the crap out of it and the apply the epoxy. I'm not familiar with the stuff mentioned above so I can't say how it works but only go by what the poster stated. It might be better, but I've never played with it because of the success we've had. I believe Fusion or Weld is made by permatex.
