Default 72 car door issues

my driver door wont open. from inside and outside, door handles feel as if they are functioning correctly but door wont unlatch. door locks feel and sound as if they are functioning correctly. i took a flashlight and looked through window channel and all brackets and linkage appear to be moving like they should. i've tried jarring the door as i release handles but still nothing. any ideas out there? i don't believe the door panel can be removed with door shut to access inside of door.

Does your door jambs have the small wedges. If they are out of adjustment the door will not open until a thin pry bar is used to separate the wedge halves from each other.

What door wedges does a 72 have?

A while back I read something on the Forum about using a very thin screw driver to push the door mounted lock release lever further down to unlock the door. Have you tried pulling in the inside handle while sitting in the seat, and pushing outward? My door was stuck and I ended up getting a new lock mechanism. I don’t know how to tell you where the release lever is on the latch. Maybe someone on the Forum will have a picture. Worse case you could remove the passenger door card and observe how/where the latch/lock is released by pushing the appropriate lever. Start doing Google searches and I will also check my saved articles. Good Luck

if you are talking about the latch mechanism located on end of the door which basically clamps around a stud to keep door closed, im not sure how i would be able to get a pry bar in that area. only way to that mechanism would be between door and door jam, which is only small space around door.

i have tried pulling the inside latch as far as i could and bumping door outward, with no luck. i am thinking its not the lock sense i can move the lock and feel/see it seems to be working correctly. with that being said though, the door does act as if it is locked. handles move freely. if you run across that article, please post. im not liking the only option i can see, which would include costly damage. i certainly hope someone can provide me with another option.

Your car probably doesn't have the small wedges.....and if it did you would have to be very careful when separating the two halves....the yellow area in the pic below shows where the wedge is located above the striker.....they may be for convertibles-only...….

You should probably look at the lock to learn where the part that needs to be pushed down by the long screw driver, in the event it happens again. I had trouble with the key not locking, so I purchase a new Latch/ lock.

Default Hi and welcome!

If your door gets stuck again here is the part to push down on:

While the door panel is off make sure this is adjusted correctly:

I highly suggest you take it apart and clean and adjust the entire locking mechanisms.
After 50 years the original grease has probably solidified and there is most likely dirt and grime that will just turn to mud with oiling it.
I just rebuilt locking and window mechanisms in my 69.
Im suprisee it even worked all as it was.

This is how my drivers side was

After cleaned and oiled.
