This is on my 77, when i replaced the rear bumper cover I found 2 what look like license plate lights. One is for the license the other I assume is for the spare compartment . What activates the other lamp?
I believe the spare tire light was part of the courtesy package option and that included a light in the cargo area behind the seats as well. Some yrs had it, some did not.
Its just another hidden thing to draw current off your battery when you are not looking, known as parasitic draw. Myself, I wouldn't bother with it, but you can fix it.
In '77, they moved the rear compartment light to the overhead area between the t-tops, so it's standard on all '77s I believe. Our '77 does have the spare tire light assembly, but I have not gotten to that point in the project yet. Since we're not using the spare tire, it's not really a priority for us. I do think it "should" come on when the interior light is turned or lights when the door opens.
