The bottom section of my 81 seat is worn, a few small rips. I bought a new seat bottom online and want to replace it. What is the procedure for removing the bottom seat part, (just the upholstered seat cushion). I don't want to remove the SEAT itself if I don't need to.)
Thanks Steve
I replaced the ones in my 79 about 10 years ago. If I remember correctly, you just push the front of the seat cushion back and disengage the bottom of the seat frame from tabs built into the lower part of the seat shell.
From: South of Phoenix Arizona, but North of no-where.
If your new cushion has wire (or any kind) of hooks fastened in? Probably four ?
I say this because Beige 79 describes what I saw an upholstery gal do with mine. Only I seem to remember her squeezing the cushion sideways by stuffing her fingers down in between the seat pan and the cushion (like she was searching for change) and just bunch the cushion towards her until two hooks in the cushion detached from two raised grooves in the seat pan. And then just sliding the cushion the other way to slide the other two hooks out of their grooves. All she was doing was looking to see how and where my cushions were made because she liked the quality. It only took her a few seconds to remove and replace both cushions.

Reach into the bottom rear of the lower seat and lift it up straight, and out. Your bottom cushion is only held down in the back by its light contact with the lower seat back above it. It pops right up... and, out. The only components in your car that are as easy to R&R might be the cigarette lighter or fuse in the battery compartment . Replacement is the reverse of removal.
Thanks, all. With the help of my son, he pushed it back while I pulled up and it came out with alittle help. One bail wire in the front and 2 hanging metal clips on the back.
